Pakistan, Jordan discuss worsening Gaza situation, diplomatic response

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in Palestine, particularly the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. During a telephone conversation, the two leaders discussed intensified air strikes, continued ground operations and escalating settler violence targeting Palestinians, according to the Foreign Office. The two foreign ministers also discussed Jordan’s proposal to convene a meeting of Arab and Islamic countries to assess the evolving situation and coordinate diplomatic efforts and responses. Safadi appreciated Pakistan’s role and efforts towards promoting regional peace and stability, expressing hope for positive outcomes from ongoing diplomatic initiatives. Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering support” for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to a just, lasting and comprehensive peace through the implementation of the two-state solution. He called for the establishment of an independent, contiguous and viable Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
