The Pakistan Army has spoken out against the baseless allegation levelled by former Prime Minister Imran Khan against a serving senior military officer. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) called the allegation "highly irresponsible and baseless" and stated that it was "fabricated and malicious". The ISPR further noted that this was a consistent pattern over the last year, where officials of the military and intelligence agencies were targeted with insinuations and sensational propaganda for political objectives.
Legal recourse urged by ISPR
The ISPR urged the political leader concerned to seek legal avenues instead of making false allegations. The institution also asserted its right to take legal action against false and malafide statements and propaganda. The statement came after Imran Khan questioned if military officers were above the law, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned Imran's routine maligning of the Pakistan army and intelligence agency for petty political gains.
Imran Khan's allegations without evidence
Imran Khan, who is also the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, had questioned why he was denied his legal and Constitutional right to register an FIR after suffering two assassination attempts on his life in recent months. He also alleged that military officers were above the law, and that if they commit a crime, the institution was being maligned. The ousted prime minister further questioned who was powerful enough to sabotage the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Wazirabad incident.
Legal action against false allegations
The Pakistan Army's statement is a reminder that false allegations without evidence can have serious consequences. It is crucial for political leaders to seek legal recourse when making accusations against military and intelligence agencies officials. The Pakistan Army has made it clear that it reserves the right to take legal action against false and malafide statements and propaganda, and that it will not tolerate such behavior. It is imperative that all parties involved in this matter act responsibly and respect the rule of law.
